Best Foot Pegs
A guy on the Yahoo forum asked about this so I thought I'd post it all here.
Gerri,
IMHO, this guy has the best pegs, although I don't have them. Still, I like his design the best. I bought his rear fender support to help with my giantloopmoto. com bag (as recommended by the maker) and although it's $100 and took a few weeks to get here, it was all round tubing and stainless steel! So I'm glad to wait for such high quality.
http://fourstrokewo rks.biz/ Choose "Quick Links" from the top far left. The "Body & Lights", scroll to bottom. The pegs are 2nd from bottom just above the fender brace.
To his defense, he is in the process of bringing the fabrication of the fender braces in-house so parts are coming from his current welder pretty slow, or so his wife told me. He's a one man shop and this is his main business and all. I like buying from guys like that.
Also, since the wait was a few weeks they also sent me something little - a part for my bike gratis! I can't remember what it was now because I got CRS but I like the gesture.
I spoke to him about fabbing up a custom XR650R subframe and his estimate was between $600 to $800 for a one-off deal. I am guessing that it would be less if there were a bunch of guys willing to sign up at once, sort of a group buy like Pashnit does, because I'm assuming part of that is for the jig.
Hope that helps - the guy wasn't easy to find.
Finally, there's an Italian guy over on the XR650Rforum.com site who has done some really interesting changes to the look of his bike. He used some manufacturers in Europe for his choices so there's some nice little flourishes that I noticed but couldn't quite discern until I asked him. He custom made his own graphics by starting with a pattern from One Industries I think. Part of what he did was to use that kit for installing CRF450 shrouds. I think he said his source for the kit no longer offers it. He uses the bike for some pretty different rides and he changes the setup of the bike quiet a bit for, say, riding the desert in North Africa, riding the twisties of the Italian Alps, and so forth. Plus, he's a really nice guy, great English skills, and pretty sharing with his knowledge.
Hodakaguy on that site is the one fabbing up those nice supports for the Acerbis 55gallon drum gas tank. It looks like a great brace and it protects the tank and the rads. Plus, I think he sells to guys on that site for like 20% less than eBay. Maybe I'm not supposed to say that.
And a guy posted on there yesterday with a similar look on a SM bike he just purchased, and it's all black.

Subject: [XR650R] Foot rest bars for "back seat passenger" & tank design
Hi there,
I would like to change the design of the tank and I am looking for ideas and shops.
More important: I am looking for a possibility to get foot rest bars to take my girlfriend out with a ride with me!
Is there anyone who can help?
Thanks
Gerri

Have any of you dudes tried these pegs? Any pros or cons?
My daughter is finally tall enough to sit behind me on the pig. Time for some passenger pegs.

Peg Rider ...
I'm struggling with this as well. I have this guy's rear fender brace and it's a great piece. All SS and welded very well. So I'm assuming his other work is also sano.
My daughter will soon too be old enough for riding with me. I'm wondering if I should have her on the back or the front of the seat.
We have a TTR125L we bought out of Canada when the exchange was like 1.5 and I may just ride her on that as it's so friendly and quiet.

Re: Best Foot Pegs
I found that site about a year or two ago, and posted it on Thumpertalk. Those seem like the best passenger pegs you can get for the money.
However, Honda also makes a set of factory passenger pegs that come stock on the BRP over in Europe. They are very similar to these, but have even more bracing on them. I haven't seen any site that might sell them, but I know they exist.

If you look real closely, you'll notice that the bikes also have an estart on them as well. Now, there has been some speculation on whether these bikes are true factory bikes, or whether Dall'Ara Honda just built them themselves to sell.

Bump:
Thanks for the brace review. That's good enough for me - I pulled the trigger on his pegs.
Yeah, front or back.... My daughter was fine on the front until her feet could reach the shift and brake levers. That creates some issues, along with the back of her helmet smacking into the mouth area of mine.

If Four Stroke Works is backordered beyond belief, I'll start the search.

They were a couple of weeks late on my brace but sent me some free parts as a gesture. Obviously, it worked. Me likey the free stuff.

Perhaps "Valerie" is her name?
I have no problem waiting on good stuff from good people, as long as they communicate to me what's going on. They did that for you, which is great (not to mention free stuff).
It's funny how far a small gesture, such as some freebies or a personal email or phone call, goes these days....

Ha!
That is spot on! Just doing average has now become heroic!
Valerie sounds familiar.

Fender Support!
One of the things I noticed about the BRP that isn't a problem for any of the other smaller CC XR's is there is no fender support to grab onto to lift or move the rear of the bike when lifting from a lay down or whatever. There isn't the metal support running under the fender that most bikes have, I know there is the tugger strap and I know that helps, but I was just wondering if that rear luggage support that BUMP linked on his previous post is strong enough to use when wanting to drag the rear of the bike, or is it just enough support for luggage and that's it?

Four Strokes Works Passenger Pegs
Just a quick update on the passenger pegs.
The right side brace fits perfectly, and is not noticed at all while riding.
The left side brace needed a bushing to push it clear of the frame, and a longer bolt to securely fit into the upper kick stand mount (with the new bushing). Jerry was super cool and crafted me a couple of bushings (or collars) at no charge.
The peg brace (left) forces my boot heel outward while sitting, and a bit more so while standing.
This is not comfy, but I think this is a new design, which hopefully will be be countered soon (I sent Jerry and Valerie some picts and a description of the problem).
The pegs themselves are not so good, to put it gently. They appear to be cheapy aftermarket pegs, attached to the strong braces. After one mellow ride with a passenger on the slab, one peg was noticeably bent downwards. The other looks a bit bent downward, as well.
To give Jerry the benefit of the doubt, my passenger was heavy, the bike pegs are stock and my feet are large (size 12).
I have not heard back from him, but I'm guessing Valerie is having some medical issues. I hope she's ok.
In the meantime, it might be time to check out those BD passenger pegs, or the Euro version.

Wow!
I feel a little responsible. They look so stout in the photos. And someone I know but can't remember said they were great.

No fault of yours. Apparently the design changed.
The braces are still super stout. They just need some mods on the left side, and different pegs.
I'll take a High Life fo-tay or malt kill can with a brown bag, though.
