head gasket leak

Hey guys,

My head gasket leaks and I want to replace it. I am fairly good with 2stroke engines but I've never dig a 4stroke one deeper than the carb. Please give me some insights. Would I have to time the engine afterwards? Adjust the valve's clearance? Is there something else that I haven't thought of?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Yes and yes.
The cam's overhead so you need to disconnect the camchain - which is easy because you'll take off the cam's sprocket.After reassembly you need to set the timing (markers on flywheel=cranck & cam) correct, and of course you need to set the valve clearance - which is routine maintenance anyway.

It would be the perfect time to upgrade your cam chain an tensioner with HRC parts.

Those parts are hen's teeth Aurora, can't be gotten hold of as far as I know - or do you?

Thank you all very much for your answers. HRC parts would be great but more expensive I guess and I thing they change the power chart of the bike (loosing some low end in favor of high etc) am I wrong? For the time being I saw in the manual (got one! that I am going to have to change other gaskets too like the the valves cover ones and so on.. So, price wise, do you suggest buying a top end gasket kit or one by one the ones i need?

You would have to piece one together.

As I've got the camshaft (a genuine HRC) and a h/c Ross piston already I'll only need that chain.

Mind though, no sprockets listed, but I thought this was a type of morse-chain, which would not run on the std sprockets?

Uses different sprockets.

Timing sprocket: 14312-NLB-000
Cam sprocket: 14321-NLB-000

ive built a few of these mtrs, never had the camchain even look slightly worn, even with running hi lift aggressive ramped cams &race valve springs, i replace the camchain at each rebuild[ naturally], save your money , the cam setup with ball bearings dont seem to cause any excessive wear on the chain, the std chain/ sprockets are more than up to it
