I sold XR650L few years back (dreaming about R). Finally it all happened got my R 2001 plated (CALIFORNIA crap Rolling Eyes

Wow what the difference,70lb lighter and torque is amazing!

My bike was Scott's demo bike. Got few Scott's things on it,shift lever, rear brake shark fin, triple clam (with stabilizator missing Crying or Very sad) . Overall bike in nice "stock" shape, except uncorking and T4 silencer, and some super basic :face:Baja Design kit that doesn't even have a horn. Super tiny front flasher blinkers, rear brake/light LED (worthless in a day time). Stock tank.
Guy put some rear LED blinkers so close to silencer that it burned on my way home affraid

So I immediately put (included) bigger tank and bought new blinkers (which won't flash now of course). TUSK flasher on the way,so is BajaDesign horn.

I'm bit confused thou :scratch:as I've heard that in here in California bike suppose to be able light up for 20 min with engine off. Well this bike doesn't have a battery of any kind. Wow!

What would be the cheapest way to get it done, for now? Bigger stator (full DC) some day.Spent a lot :face:on this bike hehe

Welcome.... nice bike that thing in the airbox supports the filter and stops it getting sucked into the carb/engine. Its not stock as its normally a mess frame.

Maus' makes a mess, or mashes up his words - he means mesh.
Worse, a very fine multi-layer mesh, which stops a flashback of the carb (backfire) from burning the filter.
That 'thing' allows more airflow (waiting for the naysayers here..... but it is undoubtedly true), the drawback is there's zero protection against burning the filter and/or bike if you're unlucky.
Now, this bike does backfire at times, and if you want protection then buy Durex the screen from XRsOnly, which is a perforated steel mesh which also allows more air to flow than the std screen.
Nice bike indeed, it screams for a Scotts damper!

I was wondering if it is there for more air flow. When I was checking other bikes when buying I saw the original mesh. This "thing" scared me. It even doesn't fit properly. Should I just wrapped the XR's screen over it? Or just screen?

Yea it would be nice to add damper. Some day. Now looks like I have to spend some $ to fix the electric. Dunno how yet thou Frustrated

Not over it, just replace it with the std mesh - or, buy a UNI filter which has a support screen in.
On this, this thing looks ominously similar to the very same thing UNI uses, but the filter doesn't.
