Hi.

Bought partly running XR650R 2001 U type (street legal with winkers and horn.). It had BD electirc starter installed and was sold seperatly, so it came with wiring mess. I got it running, but cant get Front/back light running and have problems with reg/rec.

First of all bike have rewinded stator, but I can't find what make it is. It has 8 wires coming out:
1. Black/red
2. Brown
3-4. 2 white
5. Green
6. White yellow
7. Green/white
8. Blue/Yellow

I have connected as I could collors as in original wiring, but 2 white is not matching any connections. As I am missing Pink and Yellow, I connected whites instead. Winkers and horn is working, but Rec/Reg is heating up. I guess that with two whites it is too much power for R/R (stock unit). If I remove one white, winkers and horn is not working. My guess that it is 2x100W stator.
So my questions are:
1. Does anyone understud what I wrote?
2. Can anyone help me?
3. How to measure W on two white wires?
4. How I can get power to Rec/Reg without destroying it?
5. Maybe I have to split 1 white and connect it to Yellow and Pink?
6. Do I really have to add battery if I want to run stock lights and winkers?

Thank you in advance.

Why don't you pull stator cover and find out where the wires actually go...?
Would have thought each pair of winding would have 2 pairs of colours you should also have another pair feeding the pickup coil.
Looking at stock loom mine has white/yellow and Green as 1 pair and Blue/Red and Brown as second coil.
Black/yellow and Green as pickup coil wires.
