Big Black Pig
I recently purchased a 650R. I knew it needed a little work but seems to be taking longer than expected. The purchase was an afterthought as I bought an XR250R from a guy and he had a 650R for sale (dual sported, tagged and inspected.) I wasn't in the market for a street bike but I figured, what the heck. I've been the owner of an XR400R for years and it has exceeded expectations. I have two teenage sons and we are recreational riders with no intention of racing, etc. Since the purchase, I've been immersed in troubleshooting fuel and electrical issues, not to mention exploring accessories and lighting options. Looking forward to getting it on the road.

Welcome to the forums, the piggy isn't over complicated but the wiring can get confusing as you lot over the pond insist on buying the BD kits which seem to cause more problems than there worth lol.

Wiring is an issue of its own.
I'm not sure who made the street kit or stator, but the installation was not done professionally, ends twisted together (some with twist caps), excess wire wadded up and stuffed wherever, etc. The stator wire colors don't match anything I've seen from RS or BD (red, black, white, green, yellow, orange, + pulse gen.) I chased what I thought was a fuel issue but now suspect that in addition, I had a bad connection to the CDI.
Uncorked factory parts, but not jetted for mods. Choke removed, not just plate, but pivot rod as well leaving an empty hole. Chain worn, brake disc grooved, its a work in progress!

it continues to amaze me , the silly things people do to their bikes, i once got called to a gang members house to see why he couldnt get his dr400 sidecover off, on looking at it i saw an axe on the floor, the flange of the cover completly stuffed, as hed been trying to wedge it off with the axe head!, isoon spotted the trouble, under a spot of dirt- the last screw!, takes all types i suppose....
