New to the site
Hello fellow BRPs. I have a long history for dirt bikes, Ive owned many Honda xrs and xls. Just last month I found a xr650r that I could not pass up, had to have it! lol. It is a 2002 like new with very low hours. My intentions are to make it street legal and add supermoto wheels.
The BRP was all stock and had asthma. So I went to work on her. cleaned carb, installed 175 main jet, 68s slow jet new needle with clip on 3rd groove. After that she was a first kick start, but still needed to breath better. So a new Twin Air filter went in and the exhaust tip received a gutting. she rocks now.
For added security, I replace the thermostat and coolant. And gave her a fresh synthetic oil change.
I just finished the dual sport kit install and have tags and insurance. And of course, we have the storm Hermine over us, so no riding today.

Is there any difference between the years? What makes the 2002 the best year.
Thanks.

They gave that year special decals... makes other years so much slower....did I mention I have a 2002 model ? Others may disagree but I can delete their comments

I agree! lol Ive been reading a lot on this topic, and could only find info about the clutch bushing was changed on the 2002 model due to it seizing on the shaft.

Between you and me it's the clutch bush on the early models and the output shaft seal and of course decals changed for different years....just shows how good the bike was made first time round....
