Loose Headstock? Empty Loose Headstock?

Post  Guest Mon Oct 03, 2016 7:30 pm

I got an XR a in July and have only just started taking it off road. Something doesn't seem right with the front suspension or headstock.....
I had a DRZ400 before this and it was so much smoother in this respect.

It's hard to describe what happens. It sort of feels like the headstock os loose.... but it isn't or that the front forks bottom out.....but they don't
On the road it's fine but off road if I hit stuff it feel like it's rattling/ clunking. It's not terrible and doesn't affect performance but it doesn't seem right.

Any pointers?

I'm inclined to take the headstock bearings out first but wanted advice before I do.

Cheers

Hi Neil, I did a simple write up of greasing headstock bearings...dead easy job try that first then look at fork oil...again I did another write up....

Thanks! I'd read them both earlier. Very good!

Yo Neil,

it's a simple-enough bike and well documented, so I'd take the front out and inspect what goes for what.
Also, keep in mind the bugger's old already, some TLC may not go amiss Bump
If you do also inspect the wheel bearings - even when in Spain, I've heard there IS a puddle there somewhere! razz
