Hi guys, as an alternative to the spanner, you may use this technique to lift the piston rod up the top through the spring: attach a rope to the top of the piston, flip the top rod around the spring, remove the knot with a screwdriver or cut it.

Good idea, but not a huge job to pop the forks out and change the oil whilst your messing.
