The XR250R has a seperate decomp lever that should work on the 650R either left or right side. I also thought about using a hot start lever setup like from Dubach or Works Connection. I am nor sure why you need a decomp lever though. I dont use mine...ever.
I just kick through until I find TDC and BAM. I have a Edelbrock on the bike, but dont think that matters.
Husky, do you use yours?

I slowly kick it until it starts coming up on TDC, pull in the decomp lever to get it just past TDC (feel thing) and give a nice, thorough, deliberate full quick. It usually lights up in one to two kicks cold and every time warm. I have the Eddie too.Doug wrote:mamacone wrote:What is the trick to starting it with out the decompresser lever?Doug wrote:Hey guys, some of your "I wants" are already available.

Yep...A Eddie is going to find its way onto my bike by spring.husky123 wrote:I slowly kick it until it starts coming up on TDC, pull in the decomp lever to get it just past TDC (feel thing) and give a nice, thorough, deliberate full quick. Same procedure I use.

Re: What does the XR650R need?
what does the elderbrock do for the pig? Does it come with an electric start? Mine starts easy but still put a hole in my favorite boot. The boot is now worth more, it is race ready, must have taken a gram or two off the total weight.

Easier starts (especially when the bike is laid down), Instant throttle response, and ability to make quick altitude adjustments without changing jets.mamacone wrote:what does the elderbrock do for the pig? I'm partial to the big obvious ones like the dirt bikes use. Here they are on Pikkos' converted fork setup.
How complex is the conversion?
Now the big question. How does the bike andle with the new suspension?
P.S. I like the Aux lights. What is the story with the Aux lights?

Re: What does the XR650R need?
Good morning Aurora, The forks are off a cr500 98/01 kyb i got off ebay for $200, The fit is easy there is afew things you have to alter/make up. First is the steering stem is slightly different lengths you need to press out the xr stem and refit, there is a hidden circlip at the base you need to machine abit to get it exposed not hard to do. Next is the axel you need to make a new one. Next is some brackets to mount the indicators and the front plate. And last is to grind the steering stops abit to get lock to lock and thats it. Also put in some new fork seals and a bit heavier springs or spacers. As for the difference it turns sharper/faster,more stable/solid feel, better under hard braking.I also installed a steering stablizer it's great going over rocks at speed also the front can plough in a bit at low speed so sit back and power out of corrners So to to the big question is it all worth it? To me yes if get the forks cheep and can make up a few bits ok. But if you are happy with the stock forks after a good service it is not going to be 10x better, the stock forks do a good job. But it's up to you. If are going to convert i can take some pic's for you and answer any questions even make up an axel if you are stuck. Eric

There was a guy selling these on eBay a year or two ago for about $50. Get a used set if you can. I was told by PC that since the Irag war started the guy who makes these can't get the very best CF any longer, or can't afford it ...

If you want to get REAL cheap ...
I know a guy with a BRP, several bikes actually, and he makes his own lower guards out of PVC pipe.

Nice Pegs Setup
Same guy who makes the subframe extension / rear fender support I mentioned a few posts up makes a nice looking peg setup. Same page as brace.

If you really want to stand out
I'd suggest making some bitchin carbon fiber airbox that cleans up the weakest part of the bike.
