You may want to hook up with the group on this ride in Oct:chrislogan27 wrote:That looks like Cloud Croft area! I cant wait to get out and ride!!
I need to get my bike in to a shop for the shift fork deal. I dont have the tools to do it properly and dont want to hack it.I found a local guy who might be able to performe surgery on the pig, and I trust him! He has a small engine shop, and I have used him on my racing mower. Ill hit him up this week.

Thanks for the great videos!

Hey Pat Thanks.
Would be glad to show you the area if you get the chance.
This coming weekend I'll be on a small group 3-day dual sport ride thru North NM and a little of South CO. Plenty of scenery and video to be posted.

Re: NM Pig Vids
Thanks for the link. Im probly not going to get in any big rides till after the first of the year. (low $$ folw)
Ill just stick to tormenting the naborhood! Im going to wait to tear into the engine till I can do it myself.
Maybe its just me being a cheep basterd, but I thought $800~$1000 was a little high to split the case, Maybe Ill look into getting another pig and having a rider, and a project!!

What is wrong with the engine?
I'm in a similar situation with a,XR650R I just picked up to have an extra Dez bike for visiting friends and am getting advice from guys who have been through the rebuild. Gladly I'd share what I find. I already have a new Carillo Rod, all the bearings, and an extra 1X race head so I'm thinking I might be able to get off cheaper with the rebuild.
FYI, I've seen two XR650Rs go for $1500 in the last two weeks here in LA with little use on them and from original owners. Alot of guys bought into that King of Baja PR BS and found the bikes too much for them and are starting to want the garage space back. For $1500 you could easily part out the rest of the bike and at least break even. Even better if you find one with alot of accessories. A friend recently did that and made $4K off the sell-off keeping the frame and engine.
I think Crank Works in AZ is the place that was recommended to me if you need the crank assembly rebuilt. Also, there are alot of parts out there on Advrider waiting for a NTB post...
I'll PM you my phone number if you want and I'll keep an eye out for parts you might need.

Im going to take my time right now, and gather all the tools I need, maybe another piggy, or a piglet for the wiffy. Then tare into it! I think I can get a damnn good set of tools for $1k and wont have to let someone else do the fun stuff!
Its been a while since Ive torn into a case, but Ive been inside a few!
Ill hit you up if I need somthin!!

Re: NM Pig Vids
"FLAT" is an under statement! If you look east and stand on your toes, you can see Texas! It's 200 miles away!AtomicXRer wrote:Artesia? It is flat there...where do you ride?chrislogan27 wrote:if you get over the hills to the east, hit me up! We could have lunch, and adult beverages!
I like to head to the hills, Cloudcroft, Mayhill area. Haven't really been too far from the truck. Riding alone sucks! We have some sand dunes close by, and lots of desert riding.
But we do have a local brewery Its not too bad, good food, good beer.
This area is alot like the video you just posted!
