Well, if not alcohol then precious little remains left!
No illegal substances, no gambling I bet, so what's left......... women?

Re: UK 650R meet and camp
whatever soutie, you know I mean Salisbury Plain not Bob's pit of despair.
On a different topic, I vaguely recall the 650r cost 38k in 2000?
I only ask as I am sure I paid 33k for my new cr500 in 99 and saw one of your locals paid 55k for a second hand 00 model

Re: UK 650R meet and camp
Did you ever rode the Hardknott pass ? We could do that , its the best road i have ridden in UK so far , the xrr loves it as it is light and nimble , wheelies all the way up so much fun ,
i want to buy a GPS ( the new tomtom rider looks really good ) , as i am not confident enough to ride to the Salisburry plain on my own ... Chicken i know
Off topic question , how did you managed to install the big fuell tank ? Have you used the original braces or the Hodakaguy's one ?

Re: UK 650R meet and camp
I have not ridden Hardknott pass but I am up for almost anything, dont think mine will wheelie to much as I am running 15/43 gearing and a 130/80 tyre at the moment. So in theory my top end is 122 mph
If I come up north though we have to do lots of off road though and I may need to bring my brother along (as he cries to his mommy when he is excluded ) .
Otherwise blast down the M1/M6 and Ill meet you at Northampton or somewhere on a main route. maybe this will encourage the others to get involved...
Installing the acerbis is easy until you need to install the left hand mounting bolt as the "access hole" in the tank is higher than the bolts centre line making it hard to not cross thread but it is doable, I think you also have to remove the tank to access the spark plug.
I am using Hondaka's tanker brace which is stronger than the original but I still managed to bend it a bit (but at the same time I also bent the right hand peg mount) as it was quite a hard fall even though I was only going walking pace. I did not realize a wooden bridge could be as slippery as ice so had the front wash out as soon as i looked at the front brake (yes I know I should have been using the read brake).
For navigation I use an old samsung S3 in a waterproof case and use sygic for road nav (cheep @ 20£), backcountry & view ranger for off road as you can import gps routes or download them from the net. I think all in my "sat nav" cost about 100 squid (the phone was my old work phone so free ).
I am using this case https://www.ultimate-mobiles.co.uk/Cases/Tough_Waterproof_Mount_Case_for_Samsung_Galaxy_S3 mounted between the bar mounts (running fat bars)

Appeltjie,
No soutie here, try ingevoerde boer
XRR's here are rare and in high demand, and 55K is easily paid for a good bike. I paid quite a bit more but it was nigh on new still, and with all the mods I've done it easily is the most costly bike I've got - and worth it too, I'll never sell this one.

Re: UK 650R meet and camp
acerbis tank is great for keeping extra fuel in reserve....
I use that same case for my S3 but be careful your phone doesn't overheat on a hot day....oh no wait your in the UK.... oh well never mind. I actually had my phone deactivate charging because it got so hot on my last trip - I could hard touch it when I took it out of the case.

Consider relocating to a country which has 'weather' Maddy.
And before you go off, yes, I did, it's why I'm here - sunglasses almost mandatory
But, it's getting winter now.... darn, I'll have to put on a sweater at night again probably when I'm outside

Re: UK 650R meet and camp
considering you said "as i am not confident enough to ride to the Salisbury plain on my own" i would image it would take you a very long time...
That is something i would love to do but don't know if i can afford to quit my job as it looks like it would take a month or more to do (and a fair wack of cash). also dont think the xrr would be the best choice for the job either. I hesitate to say it but an "L" would possibly be a better option

£ 11000 i was told
I can see many xrr owners to get this one , as it will be the only logical upgrade

Take a world-map Maddy, and see how big Africa actually is! SA (1 country) is as big as central Europe less 'tentacles' is - with only 50M people, which live mostly in the suburban areas. Africa's got space, and 'vast' will take on a new meaning for you.
Riding down is possible but through Nigeria's out, ditto Egypt - and crossing the Sahara willy-nilly's also not possible (not allowed). Riding in 4 weeks is possible but you'd have to have done a lot of homework in advance already.... so I presume I won't see you here this year
I'll come pick you up when you've broken down in Namibia, Bots, Zim or at the same latitude in Mozambique, but North of that you'll have to get down more first - good enough?

Re: UK 650R meet and camp
That would be a rapid journey of about 500+ km's a day from Casablanca to Cape Town following the west coast more or less as the crow drives (if it drove)
It sure would be an adventure... especially for someone who's to scared to ride to Salisbury .... i'll go 1/2 way with you...
