08 650l Won't start - sometimes

My bike has 6K miles on it now and just "occasionally" it won't start. Cold start and one after riding it to the gas station. It just acts like it is getting no fire/fuel at all but it will pop right off in a second gear push start. It's happened about 6x now and I'm tired of looking stupid pushing it across the parking lot at work. Runs great and starts excellent except for these occasional issues. Very weird.....Anybody else have/had this?

Don't take this the wrong way but it appears you have a 650L this is the 650R forum....we don't know nothing about the air colled L models.....sorry.

If L then yeah, wrong forum..... but fret not, it's after all very similar.
In order of importance I'd say do/check:
- make sure the valves are set correct
- ditto plug, clean as well
- no offense pls but some US 'gas' seems rubbish to me, it causes gunk when it gets old. Clean carb (spotless, and do use compressed air to blow everything out/through) and make sure the filter is also at least reasonably clean.
If all this is fine it should start?
But, here's the kicker......... the R has one, a real kickstarter!!!

AS Burp have said , give the carburettor a good clean , new spark plug and check the valves , air filter , should start better unless its electrical in that case God help you
